Read a row from left to right.
Each row below has four timed entries. The fictional data illustrates the reading grid; it is not a completed compliance observation.
| Minute | :00 | :15 | :30 | :45 | Comments |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 10% | 15% | 10% | 10% | No change noted |
| 2 | 10% | — | 15% | 10% | :15 missed; view obstructed |
Match each reading to its time
The second column is the minute’s :00 observation; the next columns correspond to :15, :30, and :45.
A gap needs a comment
EPA’s instructions use a dash for a missed reading and an explanation beside it. A missed observation is not a zero-opacity reading.
Complete the rest of the form
This small excerpt omits the rest of the form. Include source details, conditions, the sketch, and observer information in the actual record.
A record with a missing observation should not be treated as a complete set of consecutive readings. Follow the method and applicable requirement when completing the observation and calculating results.
Keep the readings and their context together.
With a digital VEO workflow, you can organize field entries alongside your Method 9 program records. Opacity Vision keeps observer, facility, and certification records in one platform.
Use the software overview to explore the workflow, or contact us to discuss your form and recordkeeping requirements.
A form is a record of an observation. It is separate from the observer’s certification record.
